Unlikely Collaborators
A small illustrated series accompanying texts about mental health

“Beneath the distorted beliefs we have about other people are the distorted beliefs we have about ourselves. We get these beliefs when we’re very young — so young they even have a childlike language to it: “I’m not good enough,” “I don’t matter,” “I’m unlovable,” “I’m not safe,” “I’m bad.” It seems like these beliefs should go away as we get older. But they don’t — they get buried in our unconscious minds and quietly rule our behavior behind the scenes.”
I was tasked to do a series of three illustrations visualizing mental health / psychological concepts for Unlikely Collaborators, an organization focused on helping people and businesses resolve conflict. The style had to be simple and direct, with small pops of colour from Unlikely Collaborators’ pallette.

“Only 5% of daily processing is CONSCIOUS. 95% is UNCONSCIOUS.“
Visualizing an abstract concept may be the favourite part of my job and this project was no exception. I actually prefer getting briefs with no defined visual elements, so that I can create the illustration literally from nothing.

“Stop measuring yourself against what other people want you to be.”
